Economy & Politics As for the second question, here is the thing… Insanity is focused more on weight loss and muscle definition, hence less muscle gain. There is still a lot though. Regarding the lack of muscle recovery- it perfectly fits into this equation. Intense weight loss, muscles defined more than with any other workout, muscle gain not that much due to the lack of rest.
Cardio history: I was always in the gym with a 30- to 40-minute cardo session, four or five days a week, either the elliptical or stairs. My workout included weight training all my body parts, except I didn’t do squats and dead lifts. I did abs every other day, longer cardio sessions and higher reps with weights.
As for your diet, you are doing great already. I personally would try and replace the dried fruit with some fresh one, since a lot less carbs that way, as well as way more vitamins and minerals. Also you will need that water from fruits to keep you hydrated.

I like to keep my workouts around the hour mark, sometimes a little over. I always stretch for at least 10 minutes before my workouts, to make sure I avoid injury. Also, I don’t know how anyone couldn’t stretch before working out. I could never do a full squat with a couple of hundred pounds on my back without stretching. Stretching has many benefits and should certainly be utilized to your advantage!

I have wanted to do insanity for a while now but as im not too keen on loosing a lot of weight, just my middle mostly, I have been rather apprehensive BUT I want to increase my fitness and core strength. Insanity is a huge plus in terms of fitness, endurance, core and toning etc but I don’t want to loose my bulk NOR pull up strength I have worked hard for. I’m a 65 year old life-long athlete who has done many of the Beachboy workout programs, but Insanity is clearly the toughest! I’m 5 weeks into the program and find I do quite well with the cardio portions, but less well with the strength components. My dilemma–I haven’t lost a pound! I’m following the diet, have the correct carb/fat/protein ratio, and am pushing way harder than I’ve ever done in any P90X program. I’m 5’10” and 178 lbs. I clearly have body fat to lose….any suggestions?
Single Legged Deadlift For resistance exercise: You don’t need to pump iron in a gym to do resistance exercise. Of course, if you want to go to the gym, I wouldn’t discourage you. But if you prefer to do it at home, you can. I recommend exercise tubing if you’re looking for a simple but effective way to do resistance exercise at home. Exercise tubing is inexpensive and versatile (you can do lots of very different exercises with them) and they are a great way to get started with resistance exercise. You can start with a set of four for about $20. They come in colors to denote the tension. If you order them, make sure to order the strap that allows you to attach the tube to a door, and if you want to work your legs, ask for leg straps. Here are some vendors that sell them:
